Offered is a specimen of cetacean (whale) cervical vertebra. Identified by cetacean paleobiologist, Bobby Boessenecker.

Obtained at an auction house, Attached to a luxurious black metal stand for museum-like effect, this vertebra exudes uniqueness and classiness. This specimen likely came from an adult specimen as the face of the vertebra is smoothed out. The face of the vertebra is like a fingerprint. No other vertebra would fit this one except for the one it was made for. However, as the cetacean ages, those bumps smoothed out and become what is seen in the specimen here.

Archaeoceti ("ancient whales"), or Zeuglodontes in older literature, is a paraphyletic group of primitive cetaceans that lived from the Early Eocene to the late Oligocene (55 to 23 million years ago) This is a particularly rare specimen from the North Sea. Most fossils there belong to land megafauna. However, this cetacean vertebral disk was found during a dive in the North Seas. A fabulous offer for an amazing piece beautifully sculpted and fitted on a smooth and classy black metal stand.
